Israel accused Iran of attacking cargo ships

The Prime Minister of Israel said that Iran caused the explosion on the MV Helios Ray and threatened to respond, while Tehran denied the allegations.

"This is definitely Iran's campaign, it is clear," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told radio Kan on March 1, referring to the incident when the country's cargo ship MV Helios Ray suffered a series of explosions.

"You know my policy. Iran is Israel's greatest enemy. I am determined to fight that. We are attacking them all over the region," Netanyahu replied when asked if Tel Aviv had.

Tehran quickly rejected the accusations, asserting security in the Persian Gulf was of particular importance to Iran.

Maritime security risk management firm Dryad Global said the explosions occurred on the Helios Ray on February 25 in waters about 44 nautical miles from Muscat, the capital of Oman.

Two US defense officials confirmed the information, but added two holes in the hull are dangerous because they are close to the water.

Yoav Galant, former naval admiral and a member of the Israeli Prime Minister's security advisory group, said that the holes on the Helios Ray stem from mines or torpedoes attached to the hull during a commando operation.

Israel considers Iran the greatest existential threat and threat to the country's future, while Iran also regularly threatens Israel.

Iran accused Israel of being behind the attack and said it had arrested several suspects involved.
